Amateur Golfers Await Verdict as Four Duos Head to Mauritius

Eight club golfers win a 2027 trip after a season of six-hole match play

For the amateur golfers who spent their spring and summer battling through club-level rounds across France, the wait is finally over. On Tuesday 29 September, at the Golf Isabella, the eighth national final of the Beachcomber Golf Cup settled the question that had hung over the season: which four duos would earn the trip to Mauritius in 2027.

The tournament, designed for amateurs, runs on a format few competitors encounter elsewhere. It is the first competition played as match play over just six holes, in mixed doubles pairs, and it unfolded from March to September in 28 clubs spread throughout France. The winning pairs from those qualifying rounds then converged on Golf Isabella for the national final, all of them chasing the same prize: a place at the Grande Finale in Mauritius.

The day itself demanded stamina. Each of the 28 teams played a six-hole match against each of their three pool opponents. The top three in every pool, along with the best fourth-placed teams, advanced to the round of 16 and then the quarter-finals, still over six holes and in greensome format.

When the scores were settled, four pairs had secured their seats on the plane. Irène Azoulay and Sarah Vais, representing Golf Bluegreen de Villennes (78), beat the team from Golf d’Augerville. Laurent Raulet and Cyril Le Gal, from Golf Bluegreen de Pleneuf Val Andre (22), overcame the Golf du Gouverneur pair. Didier Cauchois and Didier Roze, of UGolf de Cergy Vauréal (95), defeated Golf Bluegreen de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. And Frédéric Delhermet and Laurent Bertin, playing for Golf de Haute-Auvergne (15), got the better of Golf du RCF-La Boulie.

For these eight golfers, the reward is more than a trophy. Mauritius is a destination long cherished by players, and the Beachcomber Resorts & Hotels group anchors the competition with four resorts built around golf. In the north, Le Trou aux Biches and Le Canonnier sit near the Mont Choisy Le Golf course; in the south, Le Paradis and Le Dinarobin surround the Paradis Golf Club.

The finalists will stay at the Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa, freshly renovated after six months of work, between 4 and 8 May 2027. During that stay they will have access to the hotel’s full gastronomic and sporting offering, a backdrop that turns a golfing decider into something closer to a holiday earned hole by hole.

The competition itself will carry real weight. The four duos will first play a reconnaissance round, then face each other in a pool stage of three six-hole matches apiece. The standings after that stage set up the final matches, each played over the best of three six-hole rounds: first against second in the super final, third against fourth in the petite finale. The course awaiting them, Mont Choisy Le Golf, is no ordinary layout. It will also host the next edition of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open on the DP World Tour, giving the amateurs the chance to test themselves on ground trodden by professionals.

One more figure will shape the experience. Antoine Schwartz, a former professional player and putting coach, is the event’s sponsor and will share his expertise with the competitors during two clinics. For the finalists, most of whom have balanced jobs and family life with a season of club golf, the prospect of learning from him on Mauritian soil is part of what makes the prize feel complete.

From 28 clubs to four pairs, from September in France to May in the Indian Ocean, the 2026 national final has done its work. The verdict is in, and the road to Mont Choisy now belongs to Azoulay and Vais, Raulet and Le Gal, Cauchois and Roze, and Delhermet and Bertin.
